TOO MANY MISSES! Despite the article in the last Newsletter stressing the importance of cancelling any appointments as soon as possible to allow someone else to take up the space and to save loss of revenue, many members are still very dilatory over this. It is appreciated that illness and emergencies are no respecter of time but due to an increased number of ‘no shows’ for Physiotherapy, in June the committee, with regret, deemed it necessary to implement the following and trust you will understand why this decision had to be taken: 1st ‘no show’ and you will be reminded of the importance of cancelling. 2nd ‘no show’ will result in your having to pay the £5 as if you had attended. 3rd ‘no show’ will result in your having to pay the £5 as if you had attended, losing your appointment and going to the end of the waiting list. We understand that illness and emergencies are no respecter of time but not cancelling your appointment with as much notice as possible means a loss of revenue for the Centre, Sunita with ‘idletime’ and an appointment that another person could have attended. The Committee thank you for your understanding as to why this decision had to be taken. |

ENERGY LEVELS Did you know that many of the Energy Providers have discounts available for people with disabilities. In late April the state of play was as follows: British Gas has a Winter Warmer scheme for people in receipt of disability or attendance allowance, or pension credit. This provides payments of up to £30 each for gas and electricity during the winter. The company will also offer its lowest standard gas and electricity tariffs to vulnerable customers. E.ON offer a Stay Warm tariff which fixes gas and electricity at a low rate for a year. To qualify, you must be over 60, living in a house with a maximum of three bedrooms, and paying for both gas and electricity by direct debit. EDF Energy provides a 15% discount on current standard tariffs to the fuel poor or people who qualify for income support or pension credit. Npower’s Spreading Warmth social energy tariff will deliver a discount of £250 per annum to dual fuel customers who are most in need (£125 for single fuel users). Scottish and Southern Power gives discounts to the fuel poor, those on benefits and people with special needs via its Energy Plus tariff. It estimates that there will be equivalent to a 30% reduction in bills for a family in a three-bed semi. Scottish Power suggest that eligible customers on its priority services register (for pensioners and those with certain disabilities) apply for their Carefree Plus tariff, which offers discounts of up to £122 per annum. It could be well worth your while contacting your energy supplier to see if you qualify for any discount scheme! |

VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK Volunteers’ week took place during the first week in June and to acknowledge the tremendous input our volunteers provide and to coincide with this, we had a Volunteers Evening on 4th June. This was well attended and as well as being fed and watered and enjoying the social aspect of the evening there was a talk on the importance of, and how to use, the Fire Extinguishers. The Committee members were pleased to meet many volunteers who they never come into contact with and the Chair, Judy Murray, expressed the tremendous gratitude of all members for their invaluable contribution to the running of the Centre. Quite simply we could not function without them! |

RUNNING LATE We need to ensure all runs start on time. Some people have buses to catch, work to go to and/or other important appointments to keep and are suffering unnecessary stress due to other people not being ‘all present and correct’ in time! Please have some consideration for fellow members and if you have difficulty walking and/or need to visit the loo prior to your session in the chamber then please note how long it takes you to be fully ready to go into the chamber and be here early enough to accommodate this. Alwyn is always happy to ferry people in wheelchairs if this helps meet the deadline, so please ask. People in wheelchairs should be aware that they are always first to take their place in the chamber, therefore, it is especially important that they be on time rather than hold up the whole entry procedure. |
